Konami to release largescale followup to Metal Gear Solid V

first_imgAccording to Tokyo’s Nikkei, Konami is preparing for the next installment in the Metal Gear Solid franchise. You can put aside any fears that it will be a small title, as Konami says that this project will require a “large-scale investment.” Given how Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has managed to ship five million copies worldwide, a large-scale investment on a follow-up makes sense. The print edition of Nikkei also say that it is unknown whether or not series creator, Hideo Kojima, will be a part of the project or not. According to Konami, Kojima is simply “on vacation” now, despite apparently having a farewell party in the offices of Kojima Productions last month. However, given their past together, it’s hard to imagine Kojima ever working with Konami again; especially after they removed his name off the box art for The Phantom Pain, closed down his studio, and axed Silent Hills.Ever since Hideo Kojima and Konami’s (apparent) falling out, the future of the Metal Gear Solid series has been in question. With the company shifting their focus towards mobile games, and the apparent $80 million budget of The Phantom Pain, many worried that Konami would downsize the classic stealth game series to fit with their new model for video games. It’s still unclear as to exactly what will happen to the franchise as this particular story always seems to have new twists every few weeks. The real life saga of the Metal Gear Solid franchise is becoming as interesting — and convoluted — as the series itself. There is no release window for the game as of yet.last_img read more
