Basketball player Carmelo Anthony says playing with Amar’e Stoudemire was “one of the reasons I wanted to come to New York.”Now that his Knicks teammate is struggling with another knee injury, Anthony is having a difficult time watching Stoudemire go through the agony of recovery.“As a friend, it’s hard for me to sit back and act like it doesn’t bother me because I know how hard of a worker he is [and] I know the time that he puts in the gym to train and rehab,” Anthony said Tuesday. “To see him go forward and then take some steps back every time, it’s just sad.”According to reports, Stoudemire will miss the Knicks’ first three preseason games. Stoudemire is rehabbing from knee surgery he received over the summer, his third in the past year.“I’m still getting stronger, still getting the legs strong enough to withstand the pressure of playing, but progress has been great so far,” Stoudemire said. The 11-year veteran only played 29 regular season games in 2012-13, when he also had two separate knee procedures.
