“This industry can be trying at times and being a part of the scholarship program was inspirational and uplifting,” Trendsetter Travel & Cruise Centre managing director and 2007 scholarship winner Adrienne Witteman said. The long-running program honours service excellence. This year’s winner will receive an array of educational and travel-related prizes valued in excess of AU$40,000; including in-depth training, profiles, tours and much more. The scholarship program celebrates its 17th year in 2013, encouraging all leisure and corporate agents to participate in the questionnaire-based competition. Avis continues to support and grow the travel trade through its Travel Agent Scholarship Program, rewarding and highlighting the talents and efforts of dedicated individuals within the industry. “When we first came up with the scholarship, we wanted to do something different – we didn’t want to just go out and reward sales – we wanted it to be something that recognised service excellence,” Avis travel industry manager Russell Butler said. The Avis scholarship website is live and applications for the program close 13 August 2013. One of the successes of the scholarship has been Avis’ ability to remain critical and make changes in order to develop the program and further challenge industry participants. This year, Avis will host webinars for agency groups to assist in encouraging a wider variety of applicants. Avis national agency sales manager Jenny Lorkin, Avis travel industry manager Russell Butler, Trendsetter Travel and Cruise Centre managing director Adrienne Witteman “We’re proud to be able to give something back and contribute to the travel industry.” Long serving sponsors of the program include CLIA, Qantas, Four Seasons Hotel Sydney, Southern Cross University, Polonious Resources, AFTA and the Travel Industry Mentor Experience (TIME).
