Manager Lambert admitted his side looked jaded, and also revealed fitness doubts remain for striker Libor Kozak and defender Ron Vlaar. Kozak limped out of Villa’s 3-2 victory at Southampton last week, and missed the trip to Fulham. The forward’s toe injury at one point left him unable to put on a boot. Press Association Fabian Delph does not need to tone down his hard-tackling style, according to Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert. Lambert said: “He got a problem with his toe, he picked it up the other night, and it was just too painful for him to go on with. “It’s giving him so much discomfort he couldn’t get his boot on the other day, so we’ll wait and see.” Unsure when Vlaar will be ready to return, Lambert said: “I don’t think it will be months, nothing like that. “It all depends on how quick the injury comes on.” Despite Sunday’s lacklustre showing at Craven Cottage, Lambert said Villa must holds their heads high, especially as they trail this weekend’s opponents United by just three points in the table. Lambert said: “Five games unbeaten has been great, we went to some tough places and got some points. “We’re still sat where we are in the table which is great, and if you put it into perspective we’re still three points behind Manchester United which is great. “So there’s no doom and gloom, we’ve lost a game of football but we’ll bounce back.” Delph picked up a yellow card in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Fulham that leaves him suspended for Sunday’s Manchester United clash. Lambert admitted Villa will miss the lively midfielder against David Moyes’ men, but said he will not ask the 24-year-old to cool his approach. last_img read more
